Belen Breakfast Club's Annual EventsThe New SOAR program is working with Belen Middle Schools students to help them make good decisions for their futures. Breakfast with Santa is held the second Saturday of December. It is free to all children under 12. Magic Show, a fund raising event held in December. The show includes a visit from Santa. POP this Pediatric Oncology Program at UNM Hospital is on going throughout the year. CCC the Childhood Cancer Campaign of Optimist International is an on going program throughout the year. Toiletries to Case Esperanza is an on going program throughout the year. Pop Tops to Ronald McDonald House is an on going program throughout the year. Fishing Jamboree held on a Saturday in March. The Jamboree is free and open to all children 12 and under. Dime-a-Day Program is an international program to raise money for the Optimist International Foundation which provides funding for all of the scholarship programs. Opti Pig a donation program to aid the Optimist Internaltional Foundation. Students of the Month honors eight students from Belen High School every year. Student of the Year Scholoarship awards a $750 to one of the eight Students of the Month winners from Belen High School. Speakers Program the Belen Breakfast Optimist Club welcomes guest speakers a two of its meeting each month. OI Junior Golf Program Our Respect of Law banquet is the largest and longest running program in New Mexico. We honor law enforment individuals from seven law enforcement offices. The Respect for Law banquest is held each year in the second Saturday in June. Student Oratorical Contest open to students age 15 or under. Our local contest is held in January with winners going to the District Championship in February. Student Essay Contest open to students 19 and under. Our local contest is held in January with the winner going to District Championship in February. Winners in the District go on to the international competition in April. We are currently looking for individuals who would like to work with children to form a JOOI club in Belen. Children from age 6 to 10 would form the first club. The Belen Breakfast Optimist club would sponsor and provide support for this club.
