THE BELEN BREAKFAST OPTIMIST YOUTH APPRECIATION PROGRAM
Belen High School Student of the month.
Any Belen High School senior can pick up an application for our Student of the Month award from any counselor at the high school.
The counselor will check the application for accuracy, initial it, and forward it to the Belen Breakfast Optimist Club.
Two members of the club are assigned to review applications, They study the applications received and choose one student for the selected month.
Each Student of the Month is chosen based on the contents of the student’s application. Students are evaluated on their academic records and
also on participation in school and community activities. The Student of the Month award is given on the basis of an overall picture of the student.
The following are the questions on the application:
- Organizations to which youth belongs. This includes orgainazations both inside and outside school.
- Participation in community activities/out of school functions.
- Future plans
- Hobbies
- Significant acts or accomplishments for which youth is nominated.
- Jobs outside school or work at a family business that the student has done.
At the end of April, a committee of the Belen Breakfast Optimist Club reviews all of the applications from the chosen Students of the Month. The applications are re-score, and the student with the highest score is chosen as the Student of the Year.
The Student of the Year receives a $750 scholarship from the club.
